BHP Billiton Iron Ore – School Kitchen Gardens Project

Target Group: School staff, students, parents and the wider community. In particular, those who are economically and socially disadvantaged.

Objective: To improve the health and well-being of children and families vulnerable to poor diet by improving knowledge of fruit and vegetable cultivation and preparation in regional and remote Western Australian schools.

Specific Objectives:

• To support schools developing School Kitchen Gardens via a dedicated website, materials and access to a horticulturalist.
• To improve the knowledge of the target groups concerning kitchen garden preparation, planting and harvesting.
• To improve the awareness, attitudes, knowledge, skills and experience of the target group in healthy food choice and preparation.
